“Um… well, it’s a little hard to explain.” Emil didn’t even know where to start let alone how to explain what he does. Why did this man take an interest to his work anyway? “There’s loads of paper work but not all the time. I tend to let it pile up… Then there’s meetings I have to go to.” He shrugs unsure of what else to say.

“I see… So you slack off and then have to catch back up?” He chuckled, squeezing the other man’s shoulder. “Why do you let it pile up then? Wouldn’t it be smarter to get it done as fast as possible?” As he spoke, Gil let his eyes wander along the street; noticing what he presumed to be a small bar, he pulled Emil towards it. “Oh hey, that place looks fun.”

Not really wanting to explain why he procrastinated so much Emil was thankful of the change of subject until he saw what the subject had been changed to. “Uh…” Losing his words for a minute all he could do was let the white haired man lead him.  Bars weren’t places he enjoyed going. It was the smell and the people that were found in them. He would much rather buy some and take it home. “I… don’t think it will be as fun as you think.” He finally found his words.

Gil actually stopped at the other man’s words, head cocking to the side as he turned to face the man. “Why not?” His tone wasn’t snappy; he was honestly puzzled. He turned to look back at the bar for a moment. Even from where he was standing he could tell the place was packed with people, and he turned quickly back to Emil. Was his human shy?

The pulling stopping all of a sudden, he was face-to-face with Gil. Looking down at his feet as his face turned a light red Emil scrambled to come up with a decent reason other than it bothered him drinking around other drunks and the one too many bad experiences he had in bars. “It just isn’t as fun as it looks… That’s all. And look, its really busy.” Yes, that was a lame excuse but that is what he gave.

Still looking puzzled, Gil nodded thoughtfully. “Do you have another suggestion then?” It wouldn’t do to upset the human right now; entertaining as it could be, he was pretty sure Emil wouldn’t be entertaining him for very long if he was angry with Gilbert.

It felt like it had been months since Emil had felt his boyfriend’s lips against his own. Even though this was such a happy moment when Gilbert spoke again a frown    appeared unwillingly. “Sorry I left you alone for so long… I promise never to do it again.”

“It’s fine sweetheart… It’s not like you had a choice, you know.” After another kiss, Gil reluctantly pulled away. “Let’s get you home though, okay?”

“I did in a way though…” quietly saying before accepting another kiss happily. “That idea sounds wonderful.” Leaning back into the car seat a sigh slipped between his lips without him even knowing. Emil’s body was sluggish from his medicine and Eirik and his conversation still bothered him.

“You okay sweetheart?” Gil couldn’t keep staring at Emil, much as he wanted to; he needed to focus on driving now.

“Hmm..? Uh, ja. Why do you ask?” Looking over at Gilbert as he drove them home.

“Just wanting to be sure.” He was glad the drive wasn’t a long one; he just wanted to be back at Emil’s house, spending time with the other man since he hadn’t been able to see him for quite a while. He couldn’t hide the sigh of happiness when he finally pulled up to Emil’s house.

“Well, I appreciate this a whole lot. It really makes my uh… night,” saying as he watched Gilbert pour the juice. Emil was pretty excited about this whole thing. “It’s a perfect choice, Gilbert. I can’t wait to dig into it.”

He tried not to blush at the other’s words. Hearing that he’d made Emil’s night was important to him, considering that he’d thought for sure the other would be angry with him.

Finally, he handed Emil his glass with a smile. “Dig in, then.”

Spotting the blush, Emil found it cute since it was very rare to see that color on Gilbert. He chose not to comment on it though where not to make it worse.

Taking the glass in one hand he reached out for the fork with the other, ready to take a bite out of the waiting cake. Cheesecake on the end of his fork found its way into Emil’s mouth. He hummed happily. “This is great, Gil,” remembering to keep his voice low where the nurses wouldn’t hear him.

“Good,” he murmured, the word coming out in a softer voice than he’d intended. He had hoped Emil would like the cake. Starting to eat his own slice, he glanced back over at the other man. “I’m sorry it took me so long to be able to see you…”

That had remind Emil, why hadn’t he been allowed to visit. Setting his fork on the plate with the rest of the cheesecake he looked at Gilbert, question in his eyes. “Why… what happened? Why couldn’t you visit?”

“I told you already. They said family visitors only and apparently ‘boyfriend’ doesn’t count.” He sighed, setting down his plate as well, wishing hospitals didn’t have stupid rules. And that he hadn’t thrown his phone; he was pretty sure that hadn’t left a good impression with anyone. “I’m sorry. I’m trying to get my phone replaced as soon as possible so you can call and text me again.”

With each kiss, his hand tightened that much more around Gilbert’s. “Please don’t leave me… Will you stay?” voice trembling with each word. “I don’t want to be alone. Ég er hræddur.”

“I’ll stay as long as they let me, I promise. But they’ll make me leave for the night, you know.” He glanced back at Emil, thumb stroking the back of Emil’s hand. “I know you don’t want to be alone, liebling.”

Fear struck his face when the thought of Gilbert not being able to stay with him the whole time sunk in. “N-nei…” breathing beginning to pick up as he started to panic. “I don’t want you to leave. Vinsamlegast! Vinsamlegast ekki eftir mig ekki! Gilbert, ég vil ekki vera ein. Vinsamlegast!” Uncontrollable tears streaked his face.

“Emil, please calm down!” Gil threw his arms around him, hoping the contact would help. “I don’t want to leave either, okay? I’d rather stay with you the whole time, you know?”

Emil clung to the other’s arm the tears not stopping. Why would they make Gilbert leave? He need him there. “Please don’t go… Make them let you stay.” He started chewing on his bottom lip, a nervous habit of his.

“I can’t make them do that, Emil. It’s probably because you need rest and the doctors still need to talk to you and things like that.” Rubbing Emil’s back, he continued holding the man in the hopes that he would calm down.

“Love you too, Gillie. I’ll be waiting for you.” Hanging up he looked down at his phone already feeling anxious. Getting to his feet Emil paces by the bench for a moment before sitting back down to tired to do it for to long. He took his phone back out and called his brother to talk and tell him the good news.

A while later, Gil pulled up at the hospital. Spotting Emil on a nearby bench, he drove close to the other man, leaning over the seat to push the passenger door open for him. “Come on, liebling. Don’t want to wait around here any longer than you have to, right?”

Emil had zoned out after hanging up with Eirik. The phone call making him feel bad. What brought him back was the familiar voice. “Gil,” smiling and grabbing up the small bag. Hopping into the car, he sat the bag between his feet before turning to Gilbert. “I’ve missed you so much…”

“I’ve missed you too, Emil…” Gil leaned forward, one arm wrapping around Emil’s neck as he kissed the other. He broke the kiss soon, murmuring against Emil’s lips. “I’m so glad you’re coming home; your house is way too empty without you.”

It felt like it had been months since Emil had felt his boyfriend’s lips against his own. Even though this was such a happy moment when Gilbert spoke again a frown    appeared unwillingly. “Sorry I left you alone for so long… I promise never to do it again.”

Sitting there with his eyes closed, Emil lets the other’s words fill his mind. “Why would they say that… That makes no sense what so ever,” frowning as the words left his mouth. Staying perfectly still, he wondered what Gilbert could be doing. He tried his best to pick up on some noises that would give something away.

“Okay, okay but can’t you give me some hint to what you are doing?” Feeling the bed shift Emil knew Gilbert must have climbed into bed with him. Opening his eyes, he blinked a few times before they wondered from the lite candles, wine glasses and juice, and the slices of cake. He chocked back happy tears, a huge smile on his face. “Gil, this is… this is amazing. Takk.”

His hands paused for a moment as he leaned forward to press a gentle kiss to Emil’s cheek. “Don’t thank me, liebling; I just wanted to do something nice for you, since I haven’t been able to be here for you…”

Leaning back again, he finished opening the juice, pouring each of them a cup. “You like cheesecake, right? I was hoping it would be a good choice…”

“Well, I appreciate this a whole lot. It really makes my uh… night,” saying as he watched Gilbert pour the juice. Emil was pretty excited about this whole thing. “It’s a perfect choice, Gilbert. I can’t wait to dig into it.”

I think about the years I spent just passing through/I'd like to have the time I lost and give it back to you/But you just smile and take my hand/You've been there you understand/It's all part of a grander plan that is coming true

Every long lost dream led me to where you are
Others who broke my heart they were like Northern stars
Pointing me on my way into your loving arms
This much I know is true
That God blessed the broken road
That led me straight to you

“Gott gott. Please hurry but be sure to drive safely. H-how long do you think it will take you to get here?” asking as he took his first step outdoors by himself in a long time. Finding an empty bench, Emil sat down too tired to stand the whole time while he waited for Gilbert.

“Don’t worry; I’ll get there in one piece. And it shouldn’t take me too long at all…” Gil was hurrying to the car, still happily talking to Emil as he buckled himself in and started it.

“I will worry until I see your smiling face pulling up to get me.” Hearing what sounded like the car start Emil said, “I’m going to let you go where you can concentrate on driving, okay?”

“You don’t have to hang up Emil…” Gil frowned slightly; he was sure he was being a little unreasonable, but for some reason he didn’t want to stop talking. “But maybe I should get off the phone to focus on driving, ja…” he finally conceded.

Emil didn’t want to hang up either but he did want Gilbert to get here safe and sound. “Ja, it might be a good idea. I promise when you get here we can talk as much as you want, okay?”

“Alright. Love you, liebling. See you soon.” Reluctantly hanging up the phone, Gil tossed it into the passenger seat and focused on getting to the hospital.

Emil’s free hand rubbed away a few tears that had escaped. “But you didn’t… you didn’t do anything, Gil.” The hold on Gilbert’s hand tightened.

“That’s just it. I didn’t do anything. I should have paid more attention, seen you were feeling depressed again. I’m sorry liebling.” His hand gripped the other’s as tightly Emil was holding his.

Shaking his head, Emil bit down on his bottom lip to keep it from quivering and hold back the tears. This was all just too much. Not only did he hurt himself he hurt everyone around him and they blamed themselves for letting it happening. It wasn’t their fault. He had chosen to do this not them. He had chosen to hide his depression. Why did they have to hold the blame?

Raising Emil’s hand again, Gil focused on pressing gentle kisses to the other’s fingers. He could tell he was upsetting his boyfriend, and that was the last thing he wanted to do. He was supposed to be comforting and supportive, not another reason for Emil to worry and feel bad. He couldn’t bring himself to apologize, however, because he had a feeling apologizing again would only upset Emil more.

With each kiss, his hand tightened that much more around Gilbert’s. “Please don’t leave me… Will you stay?” voice trembling with each word. “I don’t want to be alone. Ég er hræddur.”
